# Beastmode Task Log: Multi-Tenant UX Improvements Implementation

**Task**: Fully implement spec `specs/001-spec-improvements` for multi-tenant UX enhancements

## Actions Performed

1. **Explored codebase structure** - Identified frontend (React/TypeScript/Zustand) and backend (FastAPI/Python) architecture
2. **Created tenantStateManager.ts** - Central state management singleton for tenant context
3. **Created debounce.ts** - Utility for debouncing URL updates
4. **Created useRouteState.ts** - React hook for URL-synced state
5. **Updated TenantSelectionPage.tsx** - Added last-selected tenant visual hint
6. **Updated DocumentManager.tsx** - Integrated route state for URL sync
7. **Updated document_routes.py** - Added `external_id` field to `InsertTextRequest` and `InsertTextsRequest`
8. **Updated base.py** - Added `get_doc_by_external_id` abstract method to `DocStatusStorage`
9. **Updated postgres_impl.py** - Implemented `get_doc_by_external_id` with database index

## Key Decisions

1. Used sessionStorage (not localStorage) for tenant state to scope to browser session
2. URL params are tenant-agnostic - tenant ID comes from X-Tenant-ID header only
3. Implemented debounced URL sync (300ms) to prevent excessive history entries
4. Used observer pattern for cross-component state updates
5. External ID is stored in document status but null/undefined skips idempotency check

## Test Results

- **Backend tests**: 8/8 passed (test_idempotency.py)
- **Python syntax**: All files pass py_compile
- **TypeScript compilation**: Passes with --noEmit --skipLibCheck

## Next Steps (if needed)

1. Integration testing with running server
2. Frontend visual testing
3. Performance testing with large datasets

## Lessons/Insights

- LightRAG already has a well-structured multi-tenant architecture with workspace-based isolation
- The existing axios interceptor pattern for X-Tenant-ID/X-KB-ID headers is robust
- Document status storage abstraction allows consistent implementation across Postgres, Redis, MongoDB, and JSON backends
